What are ferns?
Ferns are green, leafy plants. Ferns are the oldest plants group on earth, present since the ancient times.
These are non-flowering, non seedling plants, that thrive in deep shady areas, rocky terrains, mountainous regions, and forests.
Some species of ferns are more drought-tolerant, such as Indian Polypody (Polypodium vulgare), Tree Fern (Cyathea) etc.
They belong to the Pteridophyte group of plants. They have feathery leaves called fronds. Ferns don't produce seeds and flowers, instead have fronds and roots.
The development of sporophyte?Ferns reproduce through tiny spores, which are formed in clusters called sori on the underside of their fronds.
When these spores land in a moist environment, they grow into small, heart-shaped structures called gametophytes.
The fusion of male and female reproductive cells within the gametophyte results in the formation of a new fern plant, known as a sporophyte.
Ferns are widely appreciated for their ornamental value and are commonly used in gardens and as indoor plants, enhancing natural beauty and aesthetics.
Ferns are popular in household plants as it plays a vital role in air purification, humidity booster, compact and versatile, stress relieving.
