Hair care is not just a beauty routine; It is a cherished family practice for many and is deeply ingrained in daily lifestyle.
Hair Oiling Routine:
Starting from hair oiling before going to bed, oiling hair is something that is incorporated into my weekly hair regimen, and I wouldn't compromise on it.
I have learnt this from my mother and elderly in my house, as they always used to oil my hair ever since my childhood.
Oiling the hair provides vital vitamins to scalp, nourishment, and help remove dandruff, provides relaxation, and helps overall growth of the hair.
Select the Right OilPicking the right oil type suiting to your hair needs is important, but I normally prefer coconut oil and mustard oil.
At times, I enrich the oil with the addition of both fenugreek seeds and curry leaves to make them more nutritious.
Application: I heat the oil a little before using it to massage my scalp with circular movements.
It also helps the oil to penetrate deeper, which makes them incredibly relaxing.
Overnight Treatment: I let the oil sit through the night, then rinse it out with some mild shampoo the next morning.
This hair oiling routine makes hair feel smooth, silky, and most importantly well nourished which makes it a must-do in a week.
The Best Hair Care Routine
It's important to take good care of your hair regularly, both for keeping it healthy and looking good.
Here's what my routine looks like:
Cleansing: I apply a mild sulfate-free shampoo on the hair at the root of the hair to assist in retaining the scalp's oils.
Conditioning: Applying a conditioner helps minimize dryness with breakage of hair.
Weekly Hair Mask:
Protective Styling: The protective styling of hair is also important as well when it comes to hair care routine, I mostly do braids especially when I'm outside, as it protects hair from dust and air pollution.
Herbal products for haircare at home:
Local Hair Care Insights: How to care for hair at home? I prefer herbal products to chemical products because of their proven beneficial results since ancient times and no harmful side effects;
Traditional natural remedies: Herbal products have been in our homes and societies for generations, and can be obtained easily from nearby sources. Here I've listed a few of such products;
Henna:The locals refer to it as Mehndi, and it is good for conditioning hair since it is all natural, It also makes the hair darker and reddish brown.
Women frequently make a new solution of henna leaves and add items like yogurt, fresh lemon juice, etc, to get better conditioning outcomes.
People prefer applying henna, especially during festive and special occasions, to give hair a healthy treatment, shine, and darker colour tone.
Reetha and Shikakai:These natural cleansers are cheap and have been a part of family hair routine for generations now.
Reetha (soapnut) and Shikakai (Acacia Concinna) are used to prepare a cleansing shampoo for the hair and scalp without afflicting the skin of its natural oils. The blend is most popular in the rural population, and women in general like to use natural products on their hair instead of a shampoo.
Amla Oil: Amla (Indian gooseberry) oil is known for its attributes associated with the growth of hair, and delay the gray hair.
Traditionally, Amla oil is prepared by first roasting dried pieces of Amla in coconut oil. This is a daily use oil in almost every home for the haircare, since it helps to make it healthy and shiny when used frequently.
Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth):Multani Mitti is not only a skincare product, but it also has properties to be used as a hair mask. Combined with water or yogurt it washes off excess oil and cools the skin down, this natural product is perfect for a hot summer.
These products are helpful to overall health and well-being of the human body as well alongside their hair care properties.
